Otovent is an effective, user-friendly auto-inflation solution that uses a balloon to treat glue ear and negative pressure in a safe and simple manner, without the use of medication.
Glue ear is caused by a build-up of fluid in the middle ear, behind the eardrum, often as a result of a blockage in the Eustachian tube. Negative pressure in the ear can be caused by differences in air pressure, such as when flying or diving. This leads to hearing problems and pain in the ears. Otovent helps reduce symptoms and decreases the need for ear tubes.
Otovent is suitable for children aged 3 years and older. Otovent is also suitable for adults.
The child-friendly app makes using Otovent fun for children. As a parent or carer, you want the best for your child, and Otovent helps reduce symptoms so that your child can play and enjoy themselves without worry.
Otovent consists of two parts, a latex balloon and a polypropylene nose piece, which are connected to each other before use. It is a non-sterile, reusable device. The package contains 5 balloons, 1 nose piece and 1 instruction manual. Each balloon can be used up to 20 times.
Otovent complies with CE marking. A CE marking means that Otovent meets all EU requirements. Otovent fully complies with the Medical Device Regulation (MDR), making it safe to use.
Otovent weighs 31 grams including packaging and measures 14 x 9 x 2.5 cm.
During the first week of treatment, Otovent should be used at least three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening) with one inflation in each nostril on each occasion. After one week, Otovent should be used at least twice a day (morning and evening). Treatment may last longer than one month and may take several months to achieve maximum clinical effect. Consult your doctor or general practitioner after 2-3 weeks to decide whether treatment should be continued. For symptom relief after flying, diving or hyperbaric chamber treatment For use in connection with flying, Otovent should be used as soon as descent begins with 3-4 inflations. If symptoms persist, treatment can be continued after landing. Otovent can be used several times before/after diving or during/after hyperbaric pressure treatment for symptom relief.
Step-by-step instructions
The nose piece must be clean.
It may take some practice to learn how to use Otovent. Stretching the balloon slightly before first use can make it easier to inflate. Otovent can be used by adults and children aged 3 years and older. Treatment of children must always be supervised by an adult. It may take a few times before you get used to Otovent and the technique and feel comfortable with it. It is helpful if an adult tries Otovent first and then tells the child how it feels. When used correctly, the user will hear sounds – clicks or crackling – in the ear.
Side effects may include temporary ear pain, headache, dizziness, or nosebleeds.
Clean the nose piece with a mild detergent after use. Rinse the nose piece with clean water. Discard the balloon after it has been used 20 times.
When not in use, protect the nose piece and balloons from light. Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental procedures.

Otovent is a medical device, without the use of medication, designed to gently compensate for the negative pressure in the middle ear. A special balloon, inflated through the nose, removes this blockage and drains the fluid.
