  • For the treatment of post-nasal drip in children and adults aged 3 and over, using a helpful free app.
  • Helps to equalise your ears before diving and is compact enough to fit easily into your dive bag.
  • Helps to clear (pop) your ears during flights and takes up hardly any space in your hand luggage.

Glue ear is caused by a build-up of fluid in the middle ear, behind the eardrum, often as a result of a blockage in the Eustachian tube. Negative pressure in the ear can be caused by differences in air pressure, such as when flying or diving. This leads to hearing problems and a painful sensation in the ears for people of all ages.

Otovent is for children aged 3 and over.

Thanks to the handy and fun app, using Otovent is enjoyable and easy for both children and adults. As a parent or carer, you want the best for your child, and Otovent helps to alleviate symptoms so that your child can play and enjoy themselves carefree once again.

For children, the app features Otopia, a fun game set in a world full of Otopians. During treatment, children earn rewards, which provides extra motivation to use Otovent regularly. It also makes it easy for parents to track their child’s progress.

Otovent consists of two parts, a latex balloon and a polypropylene nose piece, which are connected to each other before use. It is a non-sterile, reusable device. The package contains 5 balloons, 1 nose piece and 1 instruction manual. Each balloon can be used up to 20 times.

Consult your doctor or general practitioner after 2-3 weeks to decide whether treatment should be continued. For symptom relief after flying, diving or hyperbaric chamber treatment For use in connection with flying, Otovent should be used as soon as descent begins with 3-4 inflations. If symptoms persist, treatment can be continued after landing. Otovent can be used several times before/after diving or during/after hyperbaric pressure treatment for symptom relief.

Step-by-step instructions

The nose piece must be clean.

  1. Connect the balloon to the flat end of the nose piece.
  2. Hold the ball-shaped part of the nose piece firmly against your left nostril with your left hand. Press your right nostril closed using your right index finger.
  3. Breathe deeply through your mouth, then close your mouth and inflate the balloon by blowing through your left nostril until the balloon is the size of a grapefruit (10-12 cm).
  4. Perform some swallowing manoeuvres with the inflated balloon pressed tightly against your left nostril.
  5. Repeat the procedure with the right nostril.

It may take some practice to learn how to use Otovent. Stretching the balloon slightly before first use can make it easier to inflate. Otovent can be used by adults and children aged 3 years and older. Treatment of children must always be supervised by an adult. It may take a few times before you get used to Otovent and the technique and feel comfortable with it. It is helpful if an adult tries Otovent first and then tells the child how it feels. When used correctly, the user will hear sounds – clicks or crackling – in the ear.

Side effects may include temporary ear pain, headache, dizziness, or nosebleeds.

Clean the nose piece with a mild detergent after use. Rinse the nose piece with clean water. Discard the balloon after it has been used 20 times.

When not in use, protect the nose piece and balloons from light. Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental procedures.
