How should the patient use Otovent?
Otovent should be used at least three times a day (morning, afternoon and evening), inflating the balloon once in each nostril each time.
The patient attaches the balloon to the nose piece. The round part of the nose piece is held firmly against the left nostril with the left hand. At the same time, the patient presses the right nostril closed with their right index finger, ensuring that the nostril is completely closed.
The patient takes a deep breath, closes their mouth and gently but firmly inflates the balloon using their left nostril until it is the size of a grapefruit (10–12 cm). This may take a few attempts at first. The same step is then repeated using the other nostril.
In addition, patients can download the Otovent app for clear instructions and detailed information on how to use Otovent. The app is available free of charge for both Android and Apple devices. For children, there is a special ‘Otopia’ world built into the app that encourages them to use Otovent regularly. They are rewarded for their efforts, which makes using the app more fun and motivating.

Otovent is indicated for otitis media with effusion (OME), pressure-related symptoms caused by flying, diving or changes in altitude, difficulty clearing the ears, and the prevention or relief of middle ear problems caused by negative pressure.

Otovent is suitable for both children aged 3 and over and adults who experience problems with the Eustachian tube, including otitis media with effusion (OME), pressure-related symptoms caused by flying, diving or changes in altitude, or difficulty clearing their ears.
Can Otovent prevent surgery or the need for a referral?
For a large proportion of patients, Otovent can reduce the need for ear tubes or further referral to an ENT specialist, particularly when it is started early in the course of glue ear and used consistently.
